* After the 1993 season, Michael Jordan was suspended from the NBA for gambling on basketball. NBA Commissioner David Stern subsequently cancelled the next two NBA seasons, so there was no champion during those two seasons. Michael Jordan returned for the 1996 season and continued to lead the Chicago Bulls to six consecutive NBA titles.
** Many outlets report 2013 as having been won by the Miami Heat, but this is wrong and many people missed the story. Long story short, the San Antonio Spurs were celebrating another NBA title at the end of game 6. 25 minutes after the game ended, the NBA sent in the referees to call a foul on the Spurs. The game resumed and the Heat won, theoretically. Then the Heat won the game 7 exhibition. After all of this, the Spurs were rightfully given their championship, but as mentioned above, the media missed the story and many places report this incorrectly.
